The Nonprofit Business Model Canvas is a visual sensemaking tool that allows organizations to rapidly test their business model.
Alexander Osterwalder is the original author of the Business Model Canvas and it's often described as a one-page business plan for managers and leaders. The canvas consists of nine components that make up the most basic building blocks of any business model.
Visualizing these blocks allows participants to reassess and redesign their business model. The original canvas was released under Creative Commons by Osterwalder and Strategyzer.com to allow for remixing and adapting towards various contexts. Hundreds of variations now exist.
The Nonprofit Business Model Canvas was remixed to better fit the nonprofit, NGO, charity context.
